Plan your book in 2-page units
The best-looking books are those where the text and graphics on the left-hand page visually complement the text and graphics on the right-hand page.

This is especially important if you are going to be publishing, or self-publishing, books intended to be printed.

When print readers view the inside pages of your book, they're going to see a 2-page spread, which is the technical term that refers to viewing the left-hand and right-hand pages at the same time.

Planning a book in terms of 2-page spreads may take a little longer, but it will pay big dividends down the road in terms of visual impact.

Constantly remind yourself why you're writing a book
Take a little time every day to visualize the success that you are going to enjoy because of your book. Think how good it will feel when you're speaking or presenting in front of a paying audience, or accepting calls from prospective clients wanting to know if you have the time to help them.

Think of the joys of waking up and checking your email, finding dozens of payment confirmations from ebook and information product sales that took place while you were sleeping.

In a time of economic uncertainty, few skills are as valuable as the proven ability to simplify a complex topic and concisely communicate it to your prospects and readers. A published book can be your exit from a difficult situation, broadening your skills and attracting new, pre-sold, clients, customers, or- -even - -employers.

Today, it's easier than ever to get published, but it's easy to get distracted from your goal. To keep on track, take a few minutes each day to remind yourself why you're writing a book and how you're going to benefit from it.

Add a Frequently Asked Questions page to your blog or website
Enhance your website's ability to attract qualified search engine traffic and enhance your expert status is to add a Frequently Asked Questions page.

A Frequently Asked Questions page provides you with an opportunity to summarize message in a series of short, easy-to-read and easy-to-write, paragraphs that contain the keywords and key phrases your prospects are searching for.

One of the best ways to assemble a Frequently Asked Questions page is to review the questions that clients and prospects ask over and over again. You can also review the questions asked during teleseminars or webinars, or are submitted as comments on your blog.

Another idea is to consult www.Analytics.Google.com, and similar online search engine tools, and make a list of the keyword and key phrases that are attracting visitors to your blog or website. After identifying the relevant search terms, use the terms in the questions and answers on your Frequently Asked Questions page.

You can also visit the Frequently Asked Questions pages on the blogs and websites of other authors in your field to identify additional questions to answer on your site.

Avoid depending exclusively on yesterday's personal branding tools
When exploring ways to write a book to build your personal brand, be open to new ideas and avoid placing too much attention on yesterday's tools.

Yesterday's route to success involved writing a high-visibility book that was displayed in prime locations at retail book stores. Success was frequently a long time coming, as authors would focus on writing a "big book," carefully-argued thought-leadership book that trade publishers would take a year, or more, to bring to market.

Now, living in an ebook and search engine world, success often comes from publishing a series of shorter, focused, and practical ebooks that appear more often, are less expensive, and are promote online and to specific market segments.

The success of Amazon.com's Kindle wireless ebook reader, digital print-on-demand, and other technologies is opening new ways to publish and promote your ideas.

It's up to you, however, whether or not you profit from today's exciting publishing options. The first step is to maintain an open mind as you explore the new publishing formats and alternatives.
