Part 6: Habits & Writing Success
Your writing habits have more to do with your content marketing success than your writing background.
- Step 1: Pre-writing. Know what you're going to write before you start to write. Select products ahead of time. If your newsletter appears Fridays, select the products on Monday. Try writing by hand, on a yellow pad. Jot down a few key ideas about each product. When you're through, put it aside.
- Step 2: Get it written. On Tuesday, write the first draft as quickly as possible. Don't worry about how good it is! Try using a timer. See how much you can write in 7 or 10 minutes. After 45 minutes, or so, put it aside. What you don't finish Tuesday, you can complete on Wednesday.
- Step 3: Edit. On Thursday, review what you've written. Replace long words with short words. Break long sentences into 2, or more, sentences. Review one more time Friday morning.
Create your own 3-step weekly writing habit. The more you do it, the easier it will get.
Writing, like driving a stick-shift car, is a habit you master by doing.
